Farmers Blog
Work continues towards gearing up for Easter. Lambing is certainly proving a challenging time with 5 sets of quads born on one day last week. So far we have lambed 200 out of our 360 ewes. Lamb numbers are excellent and with some masterly shepherding from Nigel we are averaging very near to 2 lambs per ewe.
One new arrival who caused quite a stir was Kayode the new Llama, his mum gave birth without complication only for Roger the farmer to slip on her afterbirth & end up in casualty - not the way to celebrate your 65th birthday.
On a slightly different theme we had our enviromental health inspection in the Farm Shop & Bakery. Everything went very very well and early indications are that we can expect the full 5 star rating which is not a common occurance in our area. Well done to everyone involved with that.
Some new cattle were purchased at Hexham market including the reserve champion bullock who cost £920, the largest price we have ever paid. He is now on show in the farmyard.
Finally I would like to wish all our customers a very happy Easter and lets hope for some spring like weather.
New arrivals at Cannon Hall Farm
There has been plenty of action in the maternity ward at Cannon Hall Farm over the Christmas period, here are details of just some of our new arrivals.
Baby Llama born December 28th.
The female Llama which was a lovely Christmas surprise was named Holly. Mother and baby are doing well and proving a big hit with visitors.
Lamb Triplets born 13th January
Quads born 3rd January
Already the Lambing season is in full swing and with around 600 lambs expected between January and Easter there should be new babies to see almost every day.
Piglets born 12th January.
We have had plenty of piglets born since the Christmas period and you'll be able to view them at close quarters playing in the straw or being fed by mum.
Goat Kids born January 3rd
We have had an early start to kidding this year with some arrivals even before Christmas. All seem to be doing well and not minding the chilly weather too much.
So there's plenty of action and excitement on the farm and as far as the animals are concerned spring is already here! Come and visit us to view the newborns.
Visit of Archbishop hailed a great success

The organisers of the visit of the Archbishop of York to Cannon Hall Farm were pleased with an estimated attendance of between 2 and 3 thousand people on Sunday 10th June, 2007 to hear the archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu preach. The service was relayed to the crowd via a huge TV screen. Other attractions included a giant Noahs Ark bouncy castle.
New Cannon Hall Farm Website
Comprehensive site now online
Our new website is now up and running - have a good look around and let us know what you think
The site was commissioned from the Northern Centre for Digital Imaging, part of the famous Batley School of Art & Design.
Simon Le Geyt designed the site and built the technical bits, Sara Robertshaw made all the 360° movies and Stuart Harrod researched and set up the Web Cam.
The fantastic still photography featured on this website is by our own Richard Nicholson.
