Cleggy and Cameron were surprise arrivals on the same day at Cannon Hall Farm, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Cleggy, the Poitou donkey, and Cameron, the llama, were born within hours of each other on 10th May, the day before the Liberal and Conservative leaders made their historic coalition pact.

‘We thought the names were a fun idea and wondered how they would get on together, so we’ve put them in pens next to each other, said farmer Richard Nicholson. They seem to be getting along fine so far but only time will tell. The jury is out when it comes to whether the pair will get on long term’.

‘They are unlikely bed fellows and we don’t know if the situation will last and may have to separate them. Llamas are well known for their nasty habit of spitting so it could be one in the eye for Cleggy’ added Richard.
